Tips for trading in your vehicle!

n

Looking to trade in your vehicle? That’s great! Here are a few things you should keep in mind before bringing your vehicle to the dealership. You want your vehicle to be in the best condition possible so you have the BEST chance to get the MOST cash. We have compiled a list of tips you should consider before trading in your vehicle!

n

n

1. Take Care of Maintenance Issues

n

It isn’t hard for dealers to notice minor problems with the vehicles they are giving trade-in values for. If you have been skipping out on routine maintenance checks, it’s best to bring in your vehicle to a mechanic before bringing it to a dealership.

n

n

2. Get Your Car Squeaky Clean

n

You wouldn’t show up to a job interview in dirty clothes right? You want the employers to see a professional you. This is the same thing but with your vehicle. If you show up with your vehicle covered in grime or with old fast food fries still underneath the seats, the value of your car immediately drops. Before you bring your vehicle to the dealership, run it through the car wash and clean up the interior. Or, even better, have your vehicle professionally cleaned/detailed.

n

n

3. Collect Your Documents

n

It’s important to bring in any relevant documents pertaining to your vehicle. This includes your vehicle registration papers, the title,  price quotes from other dealerships or from Kelley Blue Book, maintenance receipts, and your outstanding loans if applicable.

n

n

4. Know Your Vehicle’s Worth

n

Trading in your vehicle is a BIG decision. You don’t want to go into a negotiation without knowing your vehicle’s numbers. Make sure you go into the trade-in process with price quotes from competitors, certain spec numbers of your vehicles, and how much is owed for your vehicle.

n

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Negotiate

n

After doing all of the above tips, this should be a walk in the park. If you feel that the dealer’s offer doesn’t match up with the homework you have done, don’t be afraid to negotiate. Bringing up stuff such as other dealer’s prices or recent maintenance receipts will help strengthen your reasoning. Hopefully, the dealer will agree and eventually seal the deal on your trade-in!

Tips and Tricks of Winter Driving

n

Safety Tips For The Winter

n

Let’s face it… it’s not all sunshine and tan lines in Brookings this time of year. Dealing with harsh winters can be an unwanted stressful or uncomfortable situation. We here at Einspahr treat our Brookings community like family.

n

n

We want you to be safe this winter season, so we gathered four tips and tricks to drive safely in the colder weather.

n

n

1.) Have a Winter Preparedness Kit

n

It’s always a good idea to have a winter preparedness kit for your vehicle in case the worst happens. Here are things we recommend to have in your vehicle during the winter season:

n

    n

  • A basic first aid kit and tool kit
  • n

  • Non-perishable snacks
  • n

  • Jumper cables
  • n

  • Water
  • n

  • A shovel in case snow is piled around your car
  • n

  • Kitty litter to help your tires get unstuck
  • n

  • An ice scraper to keep your windows clear
  • n

  • Matches or a lighter
  • n

  • Blankets or extra winter clothing
  • n

  • Flashlight
  • n

n

n

If you can’t fit every item in your vehicle, just make sure you have some of the items listed above. It will help you and your family in the long run.

n

n

2.) Fill Your Gas Tank

n

When temperatures drop below 32 degrees, any water that may be in your gas tank could possibly freeze, which leads to blockages in the fuel system. Your tank may also get rust build-up if it’s empty or almost empty.

n

n

Keeping your fuel tank nearly full or above half will help prevent this. It is also safer to have a full tank in the case of an emergency. For example, if you get your vehicle stuck in the snow or if you had a car accident, you’ll need extra fuel to keep your vehicle warm/running while you are waiting for help to arrive.

n

n

3.) Buckle in You Kids Without the Winter Coats

n

A bulky winter coat and a booster seat can be an unsafe combination. They should not be worn underneath a car seat harness, because it will leave the harness loose and ineffective when it comes to a car crash.

n

n

We understand that you need to keep your kids bundled up to handle this colder weather, so these are safer options compared to the winter coats.

n

n

For smaller children, we recommend putting a blanket over them for extra warmth. Just make sure that the blanket is fitted and approved by the car seat manufacturer for the specific booster seat.

n

n

For bigger children, turn the coat around and put it on backward after harnessing them into the car seat. That way the back of the coat acts as a blanket resting on top of the seat.

n

n

4.) Plan and Prevent

n

You should always make sure your vehicle is maintained well enough for the hazardous weather. Doing things such as testing your car battery, checking your vehicle’s fluids and monitoring your tire tread could help you prevent unwanted vehicle problems from the winter.

n

n

Adapting your driving habits during winter is also an important safety precaution you should take.

n

    n

  • Make sure you know what your brakes will do on bad traction by stomping on anti lock brakes and pumping on non-anti lock brakes.
  • n

  • Allow plenty of time to reach your destination so you can drive slower on the icy and snowy roads.
  • n

  • Allow plenty of room between vehicles around you. The slippery conditions means a longer brake distance for your vehicle and the others around you.
  • n

does my hybrid need an oil change

n

Hybrid and electric vehicles are not going anywhere, folks, so let’s talk about how to service them!

n

Whether you made the switch recently or are just curious about how hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) work, it’s important to know how to service these vehicles.

n

One of the most important and regular services vehicles need is oil changes, but how does that work for hybrids and EVs?

n

n

Do Hybrid or Electric Vehicles Need Oil Changes?

n

The short answer is yes, hybrid vehicles still need regular oil changes, but a fully electric vehicle does not.

n

This is because oil is needed to help a vehicle’s engine, and an EV does not use a regular combustion engine so there is no need for oil changes. Hybrid vehicles still have an engine that needs clean oil to help them run, which is why oil changes are still needed.

n

do hybrid cars need an oil change?

n

More On Hybrid Oil Changes

n

Oil changes for hybrid vehicles are a bit different from standard oil changes in that you’ll probably need fewer oil changes over time. It’s suggested that typical engines need oil changes every 5,000 miles, while hybrid engines can be changed regularly up to every 10,000 miles depending on how you drive.

n

If you mostly just drive through town, less frequent oil changes are fine. For those who maybe drive their hybrid on the interstate and commute most days, oil changes should be similar to those with a standard gasoline or diesel vehicle.

n

A different type of hybrid oil is also recommended for hybrid vehicles, but that oil is usually readily available (including here at Einspahr) and around the same price as standard oil.

n

n

The Electric Future of Brookings

n

Many things about hybrid and electric vehicles can seem unfamiliar or intimidating, but hopefully, now oil changes are not one of them. If you have any other questions about how hybrid or electric vehicles work, just ask our team

n

And if this post made you remember you haven’t had your oil changed in a while, schedule your next one today

n

Hybrid and electric vehicles are here to stay and can be found at Einspahr Auto. Interested in upgrading to one or taking one for a test drive? We have a few available now in Brookings.

Tire care in Brookings by the Einspahr service team

n

n

Don’t get caught on slick roads with old tires this winter — schedule a service appointment with our Einspahr service team and we’ll set you up with new tires for less.

n

n

Winter is headed to Brookings, folks, and you don’t want to wait to replace your tires! How do you know when they need replacing? Here are a few ways:

n

n

    n

  • Do Your Tires Pass The Penny Test? — hold a penny upside-down beside the tread of your tire(s). If your tread doesn’t go much further beyond Lincoln’s head, you might need new tires.
  • n

n

n

    n

  • Are Your Tires Properly Inflated? — Check your tire inflation (or we can check it for you!) and make sure each tire is between 32 psi and 35 psi when it’s cold. If your tires can’t keep this pressure consistently, you might need new tires.
  • n

n

n

    n

  • Do Your Tires Have Good Traction Control? — If you feel your tires losing control/sliding a bit when it rains or as roads get icy in the mornings, that’s pretty simple: You definitely need new tires
  • n

n

n

New tires will ensure the best traction control and handle on these Brookings roads, whether you need them to drive down the road or drive a long commute.

Ford Lightning parked at house, showing off features.

n

One of the main innovations Ford has been focusing on is electric vehicles. We had the pleasure of acquiring the Ford F-150 Lighting in early July. It’s great to have it here to show to the Brookings community, but it also gives a feel for what the 2023 Fords models are going to be like and what the future looks like for all of Ford’s electric vehicles.

n

Since we do have a demo version of the Ford F-150 Lightning on the lot, we felt like we should show it off a little bit.  We did a walkaround video showing off the vehicle’s features.

n

n

n

n

The Stats

n

If you think that the ‘Built Ford Tough’ slogan doesn’t apply to the electric models, you’re definitely wrong. The stats on the Ford F-150 Lightning are pretty impressive.

n

    n

  • 230 miles EPA-estimated range
  • n

  • 10 hour charge with Ford charge station pro
  • n

  • 0-60 in mid-4 seconds
  • n

  • Towing capacity of 7,700 lbs
  • n

n

You can tell that there was a lot of effort put into making sure nothing is sacrificed in the Lightning, but we’re not even getting to the best part of the Ford Lightning.

n

Accessories

n

The technological innovation doesn’t stop for the Ford Lightning vehicle being electric-only. The accessories provided with the vehicle set the standards for future/electric vehicle options.

n

The Lightning is Constantly Learning

n

The Ford Lightning comes with features that help your vehicle perform better. Using Ford’s SYNC 4A will let the vehicle get to know your driving habits, common routes, etc. so it will perform at its best.

n

When you are driving your Lightning, it will give you real-time change estimates to arrival time and battery usage. It will tell you what your mile range is based on any possible factor that you may face on the road.

n

The Lightning also has software updates to make sure it is up-to-date and performing efficiently. Yep, you heard that right. Your vehicle is updated with as little work as you updating your phone.

n

It Helps With Power Outages

n

Did the power go out in your neighborhood? No need to worry about it. The Lightning has intelligent backup power. As long as your Lightning is connected to the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro, it can power your home for three days or even more if rationed properly.

n

No Engine Means More Storage

n

Whether you need space to store your tools or gear for your next camping adventure, the Lightning’s got you covered. It’s water resistant and comes with four 120v outlets and two USB chargers. Lastly, it can handle a load capacity of 400 lbs!

n

The Future is Now

n

Electric vehicles are the future of the auto industry and the Lightning is just the beginning. Interested in what else is new with our upcoming 2023 models? We have a blog post with Ford’s improvements on their 2023 models to keep you guys informed!

Take a Peek at Ford’s 2023 Improvements »

Team photo of the Einspahr staff

n

n

Has a job ever told you their team is “like family”? Here at Einspahr Auto, that’s a bit more true than other places.

n

Some members of our staff enjoy working for our team and the benefits we offer so much that they’ve encouraged members of their own families to work with us as well! This, along with our usual standard of creating a comfortable and supportive work environment, ensures our team members come to work each day ready to help the people of Brookings with a trusted team behind them for support.

n

n

From Family-Owned to Family-Staffed

n

Working with family is not a new concept around here — in fact, that’s how it all started.

n

General manager Matt Einspahr and President Ron Einspahr started the family-friendly environment with a father-son operation, and have kept it that way for 53 years now.

n

But the family ties don’t stop there — in our sales department, we have father and son, Ryan and Peyton Ramstad. But don’t get the idea that all relatives here work in the same department, McIane Mertz works in sales and his son Keegan Mertz works in reconditioning. Mary Turner is one of our star service assistants and her daughter Megan Busche is now one of our reconditioning assistants.

n

n

You Could Join the Family, Too

n

If this family-friendly environment sounds like a place you’d like to work, we’re looking to expand our team! You don’t need to have automotive experience to succeed here, and you won’t be stuck at a desk all day.

n

From our service and parts departments working on vehicles to our sales team out on the floor showing any number of new or used cars, we like to get up and move.

n

We’re confident our team and our training processes set everyone here up for success, and our low turnover rate has been a great sign of this. More than half of our employees have been working for Einspahr for at least five years. But more than that, we have a few values we like to stick to:

n

n

    n

  • Work/life balance: We won’t ask you to stay later just to sell one more vehicle, many of us have families and pets at home to spend time with as well.
  • n

  • Staying involved in the community: On top of supporting local businesses and schools throughout the year, we also support an annual truck raffle for  the Brookings Boys and Girls Club.
  • n

  • Growing as we go: One of the Einspahr brand values is believing that “(e)very occasion of growth directly results in greater possibilities for community involvement, investment, and support.”
  • n

Ford Section 179

n

Are you thinking about buying or ordering a new vehicle for your small business, ranch, or farm this year? We’re here to tell you, do it now! This year, ordering a vehicle is the best way to get precisely what you want and need in a business truck. Cars are taking a few months to arrive, so order now to be eligible to take advantage of the Section 179 tax deduction.

n

n

What Is the Section 179 Tax Deduction?

n

Section 179 gives businesses the ability to deduct up to the full purchase price of qualifying vehicles or equipment. If you buy outright, lease, or finance the vehicle, you are able to deduct the full purchase price from your gross income.

n

Essentially, the government wants you to invest in your business and continue to help the economy thrive. This tax deduction has been around for a long time and can be used for your 2022 tax year.

n

 RAM Section 179

n

What qualifies as a business vehicle?

n

Unfortunately, you can’t go and buy any vehicle and claim it for work. Vehicles and equipment must be used at least 50{83951c3c923d19e44167f79798e64c4aae41df40e53a089bc0d08f070d69866f} of the time for business purposes. You are able to take the percentage of time the vehicle is used for business and multiply it by the purchase price. That amount is what you are able to deduct. If you use the vehicle only for business, that is the whole purchase price.

n

There are a few other rules and regulations that you should know about:

n

    n

  • Businesses are able to write off up to $1,080,000 of assets expensed
  • n

  • Vehicles and equipment may be new or used. Used vehicles or equipment must be new to the business.
  • n

  • Vehicles and equipment must be purchased or leased between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022.
  • n

n

For a full list of what qualifies and the fine print, go to Section179.org. We always suggest you talk with your accountant about taxes and the benefits offered.

n

n

Why order now?

n

Since vehicles take a few months to arrive, ordering your new Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, or RAM now is really important. Vehicles are not leased, financed, or purchased until they arrive at the dealership.

n

Don’t wait until December to think about purchasing a vehicle because what you need in a vehicle may not be for sale on our lot.

n

The team at Einspahr understands the importance of Section 179 to our local farmers, ranchers, and small businesses. We’re here to help you find the right vehicle for your company to use. Feel free to stop by the dealership to start your ordering process.
